The ÀÇÓѸó Club Experience
Community is a major theme that ÀÇÓѸó champions on both the large and small scale, ranging from campus-wide chapel three times a week to tight-knit residence hall events. Anywhere you look on campus, you can find a place to call home thanks to this commitment to community. One of the places that this can most evidently be found is in the numerous student-led clubs that ÀÇÓѸó has to offer. When students are first leaving home, coming to college can be a daunting experience—but a great way to meet new people with shared interests and begin making a new home can start with finding a club to join.
From Tri-Beta to Cave Spelunking
Everyone can find a club that suits their interests. For all the adrenaline junkies at ÀÇÓѸó, the outdoors club is a great place to check out with their caving adventures, whitewater rafting excursions, and the many hikes they enjoy together. If that is not quite your speed, there are many humanities clubs to choose from such as Laugh Track (ÀÇÓѸó’s Improv Team), Poetry Club, and Philosophy Club. Alongside these are academic clubs like the nationally recognized Tri-Beta and ÀÇÓѸó’s own Pre-Law Club where faculty assist students on their academic journeys. The sports enthusiasts can also find their place in the Scots Lift group and Frisbee Club, to name a few. The biggest problem won’t be finding a club—it will be choosing which ones to join.
CovCon: Where Club Dreams Come True
For students to learn about the diverse spread of clubs and local programs at and around ÀÇÓѸó, CovCon is the place to be. Early in the fall semester of each academic year, the groups flock to the chapel lawn and set up tables for a few hours so that students and faculty alike can see what clubs are being offered and enjoy snacks and giveaways provided by student development. Walking around the many tables can seem overwhelming at first, but it is a great opportunity to learn about all that ÀÇÓѸó has to offer for students by other students. The best part of it all: you are not limited to a single club. There is no need to sacrifice one love for another as students have the ability to join as many clubs as their schedule allows.
Starting a New Club
The club roster is vast, and every year new clubs are being added to the roster for students to join. Do not fear if you cannot find your specific interest at CovCon because ÀÇÓѸó is committed to listening to students’ desires for community. If a student is interested in starting a club, student development is ready to help and offers informational meetings regarding how to begin. Once a club application is approved, students request a faculty member to be their advisor and enter a probationary semester. If the club gains enough student interest via membership, the club gains full recognition as a student organization and can receive funding from student senate.
