Launching Into Life and Career: Henley Henderson '22

Working as a resident assistant for ÀÇÓѸó’s incredible student development department opened my eyes to my passion for residence life. Through my time at ÀÇÓѸó, the Lord revealed His next steps for me after I leave Lookout Mountain. After graduation, I plan to attend graduate school at Baylor University to study higher education and student affairs while also working as a graduate resident director. As a GRD, I will be living in a campus dorm and supervising RAs.
Student development was not my career plan when I came to ÀÇÓѸó in 2018, but the Lord used my supervisors and fellow residents to guide me. I had the amazing opportunity to walk alongside fellow students as they navigate college life. Whether it was sitting with them through suffering, diving into theological questions together, celebrating their achievements, or just being a friend when they needed connection, my favorite part about being a resident assistant was the people I had the opportunity to serve.
Diving into residents’ stories also helped me grow. Even when they didn’t mean to, residents taught me so many valuable lessons simply by opening up their lives to me. Dorm life is vibrant, chaotic, and a place of growth, so I can think of no better place than a dorm to call my office.
I’m excited to have decades ahead of me that will be filled with stories from college students. My prayer for graduate school and my life after ÀÇÓѸó is that Christ would use me as a vessel to minister to students and that He would continue to use residence life to push me closer to Him.
